Awards Academy

Awards Academy

Our IABC/BC members have won dozens of national and international communications awards.

We are tapping into our collective knowledge to share wisdom on successfully applying to communications awards with our younger members and first-time awards applicants.

IABC/BC’s Awards Academy, a new formal awards mentorship program launched for our 2019-2020 year, aims to do just this.

Need help to put an award application together?

We are pairing one experienced communicator who has won either an IABC Canada Silver Leaf or an IABC International Gold Quill award for their work with an aspiring applicant. Any IABC/BC member who has not previously won a Gold Quill or Silver Leaf award is eligible to apply to be a mentee.

Mentors earn points towards certification

Mentors will develop coaching skills and they can claim up to 10 hours of mentorship toward their certification requirements and renewals, which require proof of formal mentorship. Benefits for mentees include access to professional advice and support, an improved awards submission and career development.

How does it work?

Each Awards Academy match will meet for 10 hours in total, spread over several sessions, to review, prepare, revise and discuss the mentee’s awards application.

These meetings can occur in person or virtually, but they must happen over a period of several months, and they must be documented in a written log with dates and times kept by each participant.

At the end of the 10-hour mentorship commitment, each participant will receive a letter from IABC/BC confirming their involvement in and completion of the program. This letter may be used to qualify for 10 professional development points toward certification via IABC’s Global Communication Certification Council. Participants will also provide feedback on the experience through a brief survey.

Who is eligible?

All current members of IABC/BC may apply to act as mentors and/or mentees. Pairs are welcome to continue their mentoring relationship once the formal program is complete.
