Meet our new board members

Back to Blogs By Gemma Lawrence Posted: October 25, 2018

It’s been another busy month for us as we prepare to welcome international speaker, and top 25 influential women Kellie Garrett to our chapter, as well as plan multiple other events and programs. So we need more volunteers – and I’m very happy to share the news that our team has grown. Please join me in welcoming our new Executive Administrator Julia and Co-Director Marketing and Communications Rumnique to you all.

About Julia

Julia White, Senior Manager Communications at CDRD is a long time IABC member who has previously held the roles of Director, Career Development and Team Lead, Gift of Communications

How did you first get involved with IABC/BC?

Earlier in my career I reached out to IABC/BC because I wanted to connect with fellow communicators and learn best practices from leaders in our profession.

What do you think makes IABC/BC special?

IABC/BC is an engaged and well-connected chapter committed to bringing together professional communicators from many different sectors to grow and advance our profession. The chapter has strong links to IABC International and members can benefit from their resources.

What do you hope to gain from joining the exec team?

IABC/BC has helped me build my career and personal brand over the years by providing countless opportunities through  networking, professional development, events, volunteering and more. I want to give back some of what I have learned and experienced to help advance the organization.

What are you most excited about?

The potential awaiting members who choose to get engaged and plug into this amazing network of communicators.

About Rumnique

Rumnique, Communications & Engagement Specialist at West Coast Environmental Law is new to IABC and brings with her a diverse digital marketing and storytelling skillset. She is also a fellow Brit so she adds to the international mix of our board – and wider team.

How did you first get involved with IABC/BC?

I heard about IABC through fellow board member Emily Fister who told me of wonderful opportunities she’d had to meet other communications professionals and participate in mentoring. I was sold on IABC as a great organization to help further my work in the communications world.

What do you think makes IABC/BC special?

IABC is special to me because I get to peek into how other communications professionals outside of my field use the latest tools and technologies to further their work’s brand and campaigns. I’m thrilled that IABC offers countless events to communication specialists at all levels and that participants are very forthcoming with their knowledge-transfer.

What do you hope to gain from joining the exec team?

I’m hoping to build on my leadership and interpersonal skills with a great organization and with Emily as the Capt Kirk to my Spock or in being the Lisa to my Bart!!

What are you most excited about?

I’m very excited to feature engaging #myIABCStory on our channels, utilize new technologies to bring in new members and bring a funny and personable tone to all things IABC marcomms!
