As a member of IABC/BC you could develop your leadership skills and lead our chapter by joining our board of directors. Interested? Read on for more information on our current board and the application process.
Who we are
IABC/BC is a not-for-profit member association that is volunteer run from President down to new student member volunteers. We are one of the top 5 largest chapters in the world. We have over 420 members across the province of British Columbia and we have been operating since 1980.
Our board structure
Our board is made up of a team of volunteer directors within specialized portfolios, who are led by an executive board comprised of our President, Vice President, Past President, Executive Administrator, and Treasurer. They are responsible for the development, delivery, and governance of the activities that take place within our chapter. We work together to develop the strategic plan and direction for the chapter under the guidance of our association bylaws as approved by the IABC head office.
Current portfolio directors
The specialist portfolios are Volunteer Services, Membership, Sponsorship & Advertising, Career Development, Networking Events, Professional Development Events & Special Interest Groups, Digital Operations, and Digital Marketing & Communications.
Each portfolio director has a team of volunteers to support their work. This is a great opportunity to build team management skills, and even mentor junior volunteers to grow their skills.
All members of IABC/BC in good standing are welcome to apply to join our board, by submitting a nomination form. Positions for our incoming board of directors 2017 – 2018 will be open in March 2017.
Ideally we look for members who have past board experience (on our own board, or with other boards too), or have been actively involved with us in a volunteering capacity and have relevant skills to lead the portfolio of interest. But most importantly, we seek enthusiastic leaders that want to keep our vibrant chapter going!
How to apply
To apply, we will need an up-to-date resume and/or LinkedIn profile, along with a completed nomination form, which will be available on this page (stay tuned!). During the year, board positions occasionally become available and these will always be posted on our current volunteer opportunities page.
A description of each board role will be available here so that you can determine what role(s) appeals to you most.
Recruitment & commitment timeline
Our board members are recruited in the spring of each year. Following that our board slate is voted in at our general meeting, held annually in June.
Once you join the board, your commitment is a full year from June to June.
