Communications Specialist

Short Term - Full Time

Burnaby (Metro Vancouver), BC

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working within BC Housing’s Corporate Communications team, the Communications Specialist is responsible for a wide range of communications activities, with a primary emphasis on the production of internal and external communications materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma or degree in communications
  • Three years experience in communications, preferably with some experience in the public sector
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, organizing and managing the production of communications collateral and events with multiple partners and stakeholders
  • Experience with web-based applications and digital engagement tools
  • Experience with current social media tools, technologies and applications

Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the employer may be considered.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability as a strong writer and editor
  • Knowledge of strategic communication planning
  • Ability to analyze, problem-solve and mediate difficult situations
  • Ability to work with senior government staff, agencies and contractors
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines and pressures, with scrupulous attention to details
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities at any given time
  • A high degree of judgement, discretion and decision-making ability
  • Knowledge of web-based applications, including content management systems
  • Strong social media skills
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required
