The Industry Training Authority (ITA) leads and coordinates British Columbia’s skilled trades system, working with employers, apprentices, industry, labour, training providers, and government to issue credentials, support apprenticeships, fund programs, set program standards and increase opportunities in the trades. The Industry Training Authority (ITA) continues to play a pivotal role in British Columbia’s economic and educational landscape. With the current global pandemic bringing unprecedented uncertainty to many aspects of life, ITA is well positioned to support economic recovery and stability through its provincial mandate. The need for a strong Director, Communications to spearhead ITA’s efforts is paramount as the organization continues to elevate awareness and lead the skilled trades system within BC.

The Director, Communications develops and maintains a thorough understanding of ITA’s business strategies, internal/external operating environment and lines of business to increase the visibility and attractiveness of ITA programs and initiatives to a variety of stakeholders. The Director plays a critical role in the promotion of awareness and liaison with local community leaders to increase the profile of the organizational mandate within BC and with various government levels.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, self-motivated and innovative communications professional bringing leadership experience honed within a nimble and multi-faceted organization. The Director will have knowledge and experience working with various levels of provincial government and post-secondary institutions and can effectively leverage strategic relationships with the media, community influencers and industry partners.

The incumbent will bring a passion for successfully engaging externally and internally, with a proven ability to build high performing teams to meet ITA’s objectives, including a commitment to UNDRIP and the TRC’s Calls to Action, while enhancing public awareness of the contributions and social impact ITA makes to the trades sector in British Columbia.
