Mowi Canada West is a division of Mowi ASA, the world’s largest producer of salmon. From its Campbell River headquarters, Mowi Canada West works closely with many of BC’s Coastal First Nations, providing economic and career opportunities to 600 people in various rural and remote communities, and ensuring operations in traditional territories are conducted considering economic, social, environmental, cultural and legal aspects. About one-fifth of Mowi Canada West’s workforce is of aboriginal descent, and the company operates within the traditional territories of 24 First Nations. Mowi Canada West has established tailored business opportunities and positive agreements with many of these Nations and seeks to continue to be a leader in this regard.
The newly-created role of Indigenous Relations Director reports to the Managing Director, is a member of the senior leadership team, and leads a team responsible for developing and executing Mowi’s Indigenous community engagement and consultation plans which focus on collaboration and open dialogue. The Director will play a key role in negotiating mutually beneficial agreements with Indigenous communities and specific First Nation partners and will build upon Mowi’s demonstrated commitment to forging new relationships and agreements that result in authentic partnership. Based in Campbell River, the Director will have presence throughout the communities in which Mowi Canada West operates, both personally and through geographically-dispersed team members, and will build an understanding of the unique needs of the communities in which Mowi exists.
As the ideal candidate, you bring a track record of respectful and authentic community engagement and dialogue which has led to long-term partnerships resulting in mutual benefits. You have ideally worked with BC’s indigenous communities and have an openness and an ability to listen in order to uncover key needs and therefore build relationships and agreements that are truly mutually beneficial. Your experience working in agriculture, resource or government sectors has given you a sincere commitment to supporting the economic development of communities and you approach relationships seeking to improve opportunities for all involved. Your years of experience as a leader in the field of Indigenous/community/public relations and/or Indigenous business development is ideally augmented by a Bachelor’s degree in business, communications or similar.
