Our Ideal Candidate

As the successful candidate, you will develop and execute our marketing and communications strategies to help inspire philanthropy for the new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus. You are an empathetic team player who can navigate a complex organization. You enjoy mentoring and coaching other team members, and collaborating with external vendors and colleagues outside of the Communications team. You have impeccable interpersonal skills even in challenging, high-pressure situations. You excel at project managing communications projects big and small.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Development and Donor Relations & Stewardship teams, write, edit, and project manage a wide range of materials, including fundraising proposals, cases for support, and advertising
  • Manage on-site communications, such as billboards, collateral, and digital screens, to promote St. Paul’s Foundation at St. Paul’s Hospital and other Providence Health Care sites
  • Serve as the communications lead at special events, overseeing speaker management, presentations, and other tasks as needed
  • Provide communications and marketing support to the Annual Giving team, involving other members of the Communications team as needed for collaboration opportunities
  • Oversee the Foundation’s digital marketing and communications, including website and social media
  • Develop advertising activities that enhance awareness and positive sentiment of the Foundation and Providence
  • Manage relationships with event media sponsors and support the production of collateral as needed
  • Work with internal teams and external service providers such as graphic designers, printers, and freelance writers to produce print and digital materials, ensuring quality control and brand consistency is maintained
  • Provide advice and support to Foundation staff on communications and marketing projects
  • Supervise two direct reports

Qualifications:

  • Six or more years of progressively senior communications experience, preferably in a non-profit or agency environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or Journalism, or relevant field preferred
  • Excellent relationship-building skills to develop strong relations with colleagues and external partners
  • Stellar writing and editing skills, preferably in a fundraising context
  • High degree of proficiency in project management and proven ability to manage timelines, teams, and supplier relationships to deliver results on time and within budget
  • Detail oriented and accurate in execution, with the ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Aptitude for making thoughtful, quality decisions
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience collaborating with graphic designers and writers on complex communication pieces
  • Understanding of branding, graphic design, and print and web production principles and best practices an asset
  • Ability to contribute to and participate in a positive work environment with professionalism and a service-oriented attitude
  • Highly computer-literate with excellent Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro skills
  • Experience using a CMS (preferably WordPress), social media scheduling software, and other e-tools in a communications capacity. Proficiency in any or all of the following an asset:
    • Lucidpress, Luminate, Raiser’s Edge
  • Sound judgment and tact, and ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion
