$76,200.06 - $107,800.00 annually

This position is a temporary opportunity until December 31st, 2021.
Although this position has onsite office based requirements, it can temporarily be performed virtually due to the current circumstances related to COVID-19

Government Communications and Public Engagement is a dynamic, progressive and innovative organization that supports government in its ongoing dialogue with British Columbians.

The Manager, Multilingual Services, leads a team to provide critical information about COVID-19 in nine languages: French, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified) Punjabi, Farsi, Tagalog, Spanish, Korean, and Arabic. As the Manager, you are accountable for ensuring clear, timely and accurate information in multiple languages across government’s online service channels, including gov.bc.ca and government social media accounts. In this role you will work closely with internal and external partners and clients to set priorities, expectations and standards, provide quality assurance and version control, and ensure all delivery requirements are met. As the Manager, you will work to build and foster relationships with stakeholders and community leaders to raise awareness of multilingual information about COVID-19 and gather feedback. Additionally, in this Manager role, you will be responsible for managing contractors (invoices and quotes) and providing regular reporting on performance metrics.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (linguistics, languages, journalism, public relations, public policy, political science, writing, or communications-related discipline) and 5 years or more related work experience* is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component of a major project.
  • Experience working in the field of communications for a small or large organization.

Related work experience* is defined as requiring the following:

  • Experience writing, translating, or trans-creating written communications such as news releases, publications, social media, website content in one or more languages {e.g.: French, Chinese, (Traditional or Simplified), Punjabi, Farsi, Tagalog, Spanish, Korean, Arabic, or other}
  • Translating English materials into French, Chinese or Punjabi with a high degree of accuracy
  • Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a variety of materials such as communications or engagement plans, newsletter articles, news releases, and key messages
  • Experience managing communications or community outreach for an organization, public agency or client
  • Experience creating, managing and/or moderating social media on behalf of an organization, public agency or client
  • Working with a team to complete complex, sensitive or high-profile projects
