Description

The British Columbia Housing Management Commission (BC Housing) is a crown agency of the provincial government and is responsible for providing a range of housing programs for British Columbians. BC Housing, together with its partners, works across the housing continuum to: ensure the most vulnerable have housing and support options that provide stability and maximize independence; increase the supply of affordable and supported housing options for people with low and moderate incomes; administer rent assistance programs; oversee the management of provincial housing properties and programs; support strong non-profit and Indigenous housing sectors; and provide a licensing system in which residential builders achieve a high bar of professionalism. BC Housing seeks sustainable housing solutions that are supported by excellence in service delivery and research, and that take into account social, financial and environmental impacts. 

There is not a more compelling mandate for a VP, Corporate Communications than being part of an organization which is focused on creating safe, affordable and quality housing for British Columbians. Making a positive difference in people’s lives and communities is what those who go to work at BC Housing have top of mind every day. This VP position, reporting to the CEO, is strategic and operational in nature. Front and centre is the focus on comprehensive planning and execution on a wide array of transformative and innovative communications initiatives which align to the mission and goals of BC Housing, its stakeholders, partner groups, staff and clients.

This is truly a multifaceted leadership role working inside and outside the organization, and with government. The VP, Corporate Communications plays a pivotal role in overseeing communication strategy and planning, media relations, public affairs and community engagement activities, including local, regional, provincial and Indigenous community stakeholders. The role requires a proven and seasoned effective leader who has demonstrated results, an orientation to service excellence, team development and working successfully with senior leaders in various disciplines. Additionally, the incoming VP will play the role of a counsel to the CEO on matters of importance to the organization.

The ideal candidate will be a highly capable and trusted advisor, bringing many years of direct experience within a multi-layered, diverse and fast-moving organization leading a communications function. A senior leader who has personally developed and implemented pioneering initiatives and concepts using sound judgement, foresight and the highest level of professional integrity. The selected VP will be known for their inclusive nature which embraces diversity of opinion and cultures in a workplace immersed in best practices.
