Date: April 17, 2013

Theme: Social Media

Description: Social media is here to stay and business communicators are eager to master these sometimes daunting online tools. “Social media is the number one event topic members request, hands down,” says IABC/BC VP of Professional Development Catherine Ducharme.

Members requested it and they turned out, too: the recent “Creating a Social Media Strategy to Fit your Company’s Needs” workshop was held to a packed room twice–first in Victoria (the Island’s first-ever PD event) and again in Vancouver. The sessions were delivered by IABC/BC president Karin Basaraba, winner of eight IABC awards, including a Gold Quill Award of Excellence for her work developing ICBC’s Twitter presence.

Attendees were engaged; they asked lots of questions, participated in tons of discussion, and left armed with new knowledge they could apply to their organization’s social media strategy right away.
