This newly created position will play a vital role within the Office of the President. The Senior Director, Government Relations will be a collaborative and collegial leader that shapes and refines an integrated government relations strategy to advance SFU’s brand. As a key advisor to the President and the Executive Team, the Senior Director will strengthen and enhance SFU’s relationships and provide counsel on government policy and its implications for the University. This leadership role is the primary conduit for the university’s interaction with all four levels of government (Indigenous, Federal, Provincial and Municipal) and works with campus leaders and the SFU community to leverage collaborative opportunities.

As a key member of the President’s Office, this position is central to cultivating and maintain impactful relationships on behalf of SFU, working closely with the Executive Portfolios to strategically approach and maintaining key relationships on behalf of SFU at large.

The ideal candidate is seen as a highly capable and trusted advisor and brings several years of experience in government relations and public affairs, within a complex environment. The Senior Director will be adept at leading teams, managing issues and multi-faceted projects. A seasoned professional communicator with the ability to work collaboratively and engage with government partners in a productive manner are critical for success, alongside possession of sound judgment, foresight and the highest of professional ethics.

The targeted salary range for this position is $155,000 – $170,000 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
