SUMMARY:Go for the gold: Case study panel of BC’s award-winning communica
 tions work
DESCRIPTION:This expert panel showcases inspiring examples local communicat
 ion campaigns and strategies that have won IABC’s International Gold Qui
 ll award competitions.\n\nThe panel will discuss the elements that made th
 eir cases exemplary\, exploring best practices and tips for internationall
 y-recognized communications excellence.\n\nPanelists will each present a s
 hort overview of their award-winning entries\, including challenges and ke
 y lessons learned. Delving into the details of the cases\, they’ll provi
 de concrete examples of what worked in their projects and application proc
 ess. Questions will be welcomed from the floor.\n\nYour panelists include:
 \n\nLaurie Dawkins\, ABC\, MC\nDirector\, Corporate Communication\nVancouv
 er Coastal Health\n\nLaurie Dawkins is an Accredited Business Communicator
  and a Master Communicator with more than 23 years’ experience in the co
 mmunications industry. She currently serves as Director of Corporate Commu
 nications for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)\, where she leads a dynamic\,
  award-winning team responsible for internal and external communication\, 
 employee engagement\, web development\, digital and social media and more.
  Laurie’s career has spanned all aspects of communications\, from issues
  management\, media and government relations\, to corporate communications
  and employee engagement in industries ranging from mining and technology 
 to advanced education and health care. She has led ground-breaking and con
 troversial campaigns like the media relations launch of North America’s 
 first supervised injection site on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside\, as we
 ll as highly successful employee engagement projects that have helped VCH
 ’s staff and leaders better understand VCH’s strategic business goals.
  She is an active member of IABC\, locally\, nationally and internationall
 y\, a frequent mentor to new communicators\, and holds more than 22 indust
 ry awards and honours (including 5 Gold Quills) for her professional work 
 and volunteerism. She is a huge fan of chocolate peanut butter ice cream a
 nd building blanket forts with her kids.\n\nAdam Brayford\nAssistant Direc
 tor\, Digital Strategy\nSimon Fraser University\n\nAdam Brayford is Assist
 ant Director of Digital Strategy at Simon Fraser University\, where he dev
 elops user-centered channel strategy\, oversees editorial planning and adv
 ises internal clients. His work has earned him three Gold Quill awards\, a
  Bronze Quill award\, an IABC Chapter Management award\, the Wave Award fo
 r long-term volunteering with the Chapter and CPRS National award. He's he
 ld numerous IABC/BC volunteer positions\, including Director of Marketing 
 &amp\; Communications\, and Director of Student Services\, and he's had th
 e pleasure of serving as a Blue Ribbon panel evaluator. In his spare time\
 , he also battles a Netflix addiction.\n\nBrenda Lea Brown\, ABC\nSenior P
 rogram Manager\, Partnerships &amp\; Marketing\nBC Securities Commission\n
 \nBrenda Lea Brown is a multi-award-winning senior business communicator w
 ho delivers measurable business results by applying targeted research find
 ings to mixed media advertising campaigns. She has led the BC Securities C
 ommission’s public awareness campaigns since 2011\, combining in-house a
 nd agency expertise to help B.C. investors understand investment fees\, fr
 aud\, and other topics. In this session\, she will share the BCSC’s 2017
  “Best of the Best” Gold Quill-winning skills submission\, BeFraudAwar
 e—The 2 Minute Musical\, and its place in a larger campaign to raise awa
 reness about the devastating impacts of investment fraud. Brenda Lea has b
 een an IABC/BC member for many years\, and recently supported the Canada W
 est Regional Conference as a member of the program committee.\n\n&nbsp\;\n
