DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lively roundtable discussion on tips and tricks f
 or translating technical and medical language into readable copy. Whether 
 educating patients or making news pitches\, the ability to translate compl
 ex medical information into exciting stories and simple instructions is a 
 critical skill to get your organization’s work noticed. If possible\, pl
 ease bring a few examples of your own plain language projects\, issues or 
 solutions to share with the group.\nWe will discuss:\n\n 	how to have prac
 tical conversations with clinical staff about the importance of reaching l
 ay audiences with plain language\n 	motivations people may have for keepin
 g jargon in their communications and how to work with them when consulting
 \n 	challenges and successes we’ve had in educating others about jargon\
 n 	writing tools and resources to improve your copy readability and readin

 nAbout this SIG:\n\nOur IABC/BC Health SIG offers an informal\, confidenti
 al and supportive venue to receive feedback and exchange ideas on day-to-d
 ay challenges in health communications. We strive to be inclusive — all 
 are welcome to attend from students to senior practitioners and those look
 ing for a career change into health communications. No problem is too smal
 l or too big to warrant input and discussion. We strive to keep sessions f
 ocused\, constructive and relevant.\n\nTopics we might tackle include: wor
 king with health professionals\, communications and fundraising\, communic
 ating change\, working with the Ministry of Health\, keeping health story 
 telling fresh\, explaining research communications\, public health campaig
 ns\, public and patient voice\, access to e-tools in health settings and t
 ransition to digital communications.
