DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nYou're invited to join the conversation in the first inst
 allment of our virtual IABC/BC SIG series on Equity\, Diversity and Inclus
 ion.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\n2020 has been a time of multiple c
 rises.\n\nWhile COVID-19 has impacted us all\, research shows that the pan
 demic is impacting marginalized communities at disproportionately higher l
 evels. It has also brought to the forefront other crises involving systemi
 c racism that have been present for much longer\, such as Black Lives Matt
 er\, Indigenous Rights and Reconciliation\, xenophobia against immigrants 
 and people of Asian descent\, and ever present micro- and macro-aggression
 s against BIPOC individuals and communities. There have also been disparat
 e impacts on members of the LGBTQIA2+ communities and persons with disabil
 ities.\n\nIn the face of all these challenges and important conversations\
 , how can we better support EDI movements within IABC and the communicatio
 ns field as a whole? As professional communicators\, how can we ensure tha
 t we are supporting and empowering a diversity of perspectives and voices 
 through our work and from within our organisations?\n\nWe hope you can joi
 n us for our first EDI SIG session\, where our goal is to provide a safe a
 nd trusting space to share our experiences and learn from one another\, to
  identify opportunities for actionable change as a collective\, and to con
 ceptualize follow-up EDI SIG sessions. This initial conversation will be b
 road and open-ended in regards to the topics that we discuss so we can ide
 ntify the issues that are important to us as a group. We will also be host
 ing a survey to gather more insight and feedback from our membership. Our 
 aim is to host a series of these conversations to delve deeper to address 
 EDI issues within our institutions and move beyond good intentions towards
  tangible initiatives\, so that we can transform our culture into one that
  is truly more equitable\, diverse\, and inclusive for everyone.\n\nAll ar
