SUMMARY:Post-Secondary Communicators SIG: The changing role of communicator
 s at post-secondary institutions
DESCRIPTION:With the advent of digital channels\, devices and practices\, t
he role of all communicators – whether internally or externally focused
 – is rapidly changing. What does this mean at post-secondary institution
s? What are the emerging must-have skills? What collaboration and internal
partnerships are now essential to our success?\n\nIs the mandate of commu
nicators broadening with the skill set? Are they still largely expected to
respond to requests\, or are they participating at a more strategic level
?\n\nGiven the pace of change\, how do you develop staff when existing job
descriptions may have been written before some of the newer technologies
were even invented? And how do you keep your own skill set fresh?\n\nTo st
art the discussion\, we’ll be joined by Leland Dieno\, Manager of Web an
d Digital Marketing at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Leland is also the
owner and operator of Dieno Digital\, a small business digital marketing
agency that supports a wide range of clients\, and the host and creator of
the "Enough of the Fluff" digital marketing workshops series. Leland h
as been developing websites since the late 1990's\, when he and his friend
s created a company that provided free web hosting to high school students
  – an initiative that landed them a spot on CTV's "The National" in 2000
. Ever since Leland has worked in the digital marketing field supporting e
verything from large private organizations to publicly funded not-for-prof
its.\n\nAbout this SIG:\n\nThe Post-Secondary SIG is a place for higher ed
ucation communicators to come together\, find common ground\, share the pa
in and glory of campaigns past and present\, learn\, network and recharge.
