IABC/BC’s Students and New Communicators portfolio is searching for an Event Coordinator to join the team in planning and executing events for students and those new to the communications profession. If you resonate with the above, join us to help support IABC/BC members and soon-to-be members in establishing themselves as a communications professional. You’ll benefit through continuous networking opportunities, working with friendly and supportive Students and New Communicators team, and enhancing your event management, outreach and communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work both individually and as a team to plan and execute events from start to finish
  • Continuously review Chapter goals and target audience during Students and New Communicators team meetings to help support the team’s overall planning, strategy, and programming. 
  • Adjust event plans, including speaker coordination and logistics, as needed
  • Provide suggestions to enhance the success of events
  • Work with the portfolio Director and Student Programs manager to ensure all events remain at or under budget
  • Support in sourcing and negotiating with vendors and suppliers
  • Oversee and host events, as needed
  • Support Student Programs Manager with marketing and communications, as needed
  • Support other IABC/BC portfolios, such as Career Development, Membership and others as needed


  • Event planning, administration and/or community outreach experience
  • Strong project management, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • A team player who welcomes tag-teaming, ideas, and diversity and inclusivity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Time Commitment

  • Team meetings: Approximately 1 to 2 hours per month
  • Pre-event planning: Approximately 2 hours per week
  • Event hosting: Approximately 4 hours on the day of the event


Work can be carried out anywhere in B.C. for virtual events and for most in-person event planning. Most in-person events will be hosted in the Greater Vancouver area.
