The University of British Columbia is seeking an exceptional Associate Vice-President (AVP), Communications to lead its institutional communications strategy within the External Relations portfolio. Reporting to the Vice-President, External Relations, and working closely with executive leadership, the AVP Communications will shape UBC’s global reputation through integrated communications, marketing, media relations, and digital strategies. This key leadership role provides strategic counsel on complex issues, serves as a trusted advisor and spokesperson, and oversees initiatives that strengthen brand positioning, internal engagement, and external visibility.
The ideal candidate is a visionary, trusted leader with exceptional strategic marketing and communications expertise gained within a large, complex, and highly visible organization. They bring a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience including 5+ years of strategic marketing and communications expertise; preferably within a university setting. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of team leadership handling issues management, crisis communications, stakeholder engagement, and brand strategy.
A competitive compensation package will be provided including an attractive salary, excellent benefits, and the opportunity to work for one of BC’s Top Employers. The expected pay range for this position is $240,000 – $260,000 per year. Consideration will be given to the candidate’s background and experience when establishing the final salary.
