About Us
ZINC is a boutique communications consulting firm specializing in local government communications across Vancouver Island and coastal BC. We work with municipalities, regional districts, and public sector organizations to develop strategic communications plans, engage communities, and build public trust. Our small team values collaboration, creativity, and making a genuine impact in the communities we serve.

About the Role
We're seeking a Communications Consultant early in their career, to join our growing team on a 6-8 month contract with potential to transition to permanent employee status. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 2-4 years of communications experience who wants to develop expertise in local government work. You'll work directly with municipal clients, create compelling content, and help communities navigate complex communication challenges.

What You'll Do
Work on diverse local government projects including community engagement strategies, public consultation processes, crisis communications planning, and municipal brand development. You'll conduct research and stakeholder analysis, write and edit content across multiple channels (web, social media, newsletters, reports, presentations), support public consultation events and community meetings, and develop communication materials for council reports and public-facing initiatives. You'll manage project timelines and deliverables, coordinate with clients and community stakeholders, and contribute to strategic planning and recommendations.

Who You Are
You have 2-4 years of professional communications experience, ideally with some exposure to public sector, government, or community-focused organizations. You're an excellent writer who can adapt tone and style for different audiences and purposes, and you understand or are eager to learn about local government processes, public engagement, and municipal decision-making. You're highly organized with strong project management skills, comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a small team environment, and genuinely interested in public service and community impact. You have a diplomatic approach and can navigate sensitive political environments, bring creative problem-solving skills, and remain calm under deadline pressure.
