Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Develops and implements CMBC’s Communications Strategy in consultation with Manager, Internal Communications to support various business goals across CMBC. Develops and implements internal communications plans and initiatives to support CMBC’s business goals and to enhance CMBC’s employee experience and employee engagement. Delivers a variety of communications-related services within CMBC, including providing advice and counsel to non-bargaining unit (Exempt) employees on items that may be of a sensitive, controversial, or confidential nature.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Develops and implements CMBC’s Communications Strategy to support various business goals across CMBC in consultation with Manager, Internal Communications. Ensures that CMBC’s Communications Strategy follows internal communications best practices by focusing on employee education, awareness, and engagement as well as tailoring content and delivery to meet each target audience’s needs.

Develops and implements internal communications plans and initiatives to support CMBC’s business goals and to enhance CMBC’s employee experience and employee engagement. Provides subject matter expertise to support and enable the execution and implementation of CMBC’s Communications Strategy and initiatives within CMBC’s Business Plan.

Participates in the development of communications items of a sensitive, controversial, and confidential nature. Includes participation in meetings with senior management to develop tactical and operational communications plans of items of a sensitive, controversial, and confidential nature. Provides advice and counsel to Exempt employees on the communication of corporate plans or actions that may affect bargaining unit and Exempt employees.

Plans, writes, edits, and coordinates the release of CMBC’s internal communications materials. Monitors the delivery of CMBC’s internal communications through different communication channels, including digital and print materials as well as in-person events.

Recommends actions to Manager, Internal Communications to mitigate business risks and to reduce organizational gaps by reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of various communications channels. Monitors public reaction to issues critical to maintaining public confidence in CMBC as an operating company responsible for the delivery of transit services.

Liaises with business leaders across CMBC and the TransLink Enterprise in consultation with Manager, Internal Communications to ensure that employee communications are aligned with CMBC’s business goals and Communications Strategy. Assists in the development of new metrics and data regarding employee communications. Researches and monitors employee communications trends and metrics to support continuous improvement and the achievement of CMBC’s business goals. Produces reports, briefing notes, and presentations for senior management and other internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, CMBC and TransLink Boards of Directors.

Trains Exempt and bargaining unit employees outside of the Internal Communications department on communications processes and projects. Provides guidance and assistance to users of CMBC’s internal communications channels (such as, but not limited to, the intranet and digital signage) to ensure consistency in messaging across various business units within CMBC.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The competencies for this position would be acquired through successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field plus a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in corporate communications or public relations within a large public organization.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Advanced written and oral communication skills to develop and implement communications strategies, plans and a variety of communications materials, including web, print, and digital content

Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, practices and techniques of strategic communications

Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to recognize political and other sensitivities, and develop credibility with internal stakeholders through communication

Advanced knowledge of standard office tools including word processing and presentation software

Solid project management and time management skills

Solid working knowledge of electronic publishing and social media

Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

This is a full-time temporary position for 12-18 months.

Work Designation

Hybrid

This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $82,400 - $123,600 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
