Responsibilities

 PRIMARY PURPOSE

Participates in the development of strategic communications plans and supervises staff as required. Develops, coordinates, implements and monitors TransLink’s operational and tactical communications initiatives, which may include social media and traditional media strategies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Participates in the development of strategies and plans for TransLink communication and issues management, collaborating with the Manager, Communications to ensure alignment to TransLink’s over-arching communication strategy for the enterprise.

Provides communication analysis for major TransLink initiatives, liaising with staff, contracted public relations/ communication resources, and ensuring plans and deliverables integrate corporate strategies, media relations, consultation, marketing and government relations elements.

Initiates, develops and manages internal and external communication programs across the TransLink enterprise, collaborating with communications resources in the operating companies to ensure consistent and timely implementation.

Develops and maintains the effective communications strategies and plans to communicate with TransLink's stakeholders. Monitors public reaction to issues critical to maintaining confidence in TransLink as a public organization.

May act as TransLink's primary issues management and spokesperson in the media.

Supervises and mentors junior staff, and assists in the supervision of external consultants.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

The competencies for this position would typically be acquired through successful completion of a university degree/college diploma in Communications or a related field plus a minimum of four (4) Years experience in corporate communications or public relations within a large public organization with experience in electronic publishing.

Other Requirements:

Advanced written and oral communication skills to develop and implement communication strategies, plans and a variety of communication materials, including web and social media content.

Solid knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts, practices and techniques of strategic communications

Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to recognize political and other sensitivities, and develop credibility with internal stakeholders through communication

Advanced knowledge of standard office tools including word processing, web-based and presentation software

Solid project management and time management skills

Solid working knowledge of electronic publishing and social media

Solid analytical and problem solving skills

Solid supervisory and people management skills

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

Rate of Pay

Grade: 03

Salary starting at $74,733 per annum
