The Communications Specialist helps our customers enjoy safe, happy driving experiences by sharing our expertise and passion for tires, wheels and vehicle maintenance. As you help customers learn more about our offerings, resources, customer care and community impact through social media, you play a critical role as an ambassador of Kal Tire.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Social Media/Media Relations/Branding

  • Clearly/concisely present the Kal Tire Brand and offerings by overseeing all of Kal Tire’s social media platforms; this includes creating content (planning a three-month calendar, writing copy, sourcing imagery and publishing posts) and monitoring and responding to customer engagement through social channels.
  • Research and recommend ways to make the most of our social media efforts by staying current with trends, technology, strategies, algorithm changes, etc.; target goal to grow Kal Tire’s social media presence and demonstrate growth through relevant reporting and metrics.
  • Research and develop ideas for new media campaigns that provide drivers with helpful information or knowledge and that support our business initiatives including media outreach, asset development and event management.
  • Support our Customer Relations team with social media training and information sharing to ensure customer issues are promptly resolved.
  • Identify new opportunities and foster meaningful and lasting relationships with key influencers and support key influencer campaigns.
  • Grow and support a community of loyal Kal Tire customers who engage with our resources and our stories about community-building; monitor our online reputation.
  • Quarterly update of media lists and development of new lists for new markets
  • Monitor and tag earned media activity
  • Collaborate with our internal stakeholders to publish timely content about promotions and initiatives.
  • Support internal communications activity including monitoring and posting on internal social platforms, and providing general communications expertise (writing and content development) to team members

Reporting/Metrics

  • Build reporting (as applicable to portfolio) and key metrics for estimated impact and anticipated growth of social media and earned media initiatives using our measurement and monitoring platforms.

Other

  • Provide support with crisis/issues management activities
  • Liaise with contractors and agencies that support our work.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Min 1+ year experience managing social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and others)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in communications/ public relations, supporting internal and external audiences, agencies and the media
  • Experience developing and publishing website content and blog articles

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong work knowledge of Microsoft suite: Word, Excel, Power Point, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong working knowledge of social media management platforms and channels
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Collaborative, team focused approach with the ability to work independently as work requires
  • Basic knowledge of web analytics, RSS and XML sitemaps, the App marketplace and mobile web
  • The flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment

EDUCATION

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, news media, business or relevant combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Some travel may be required
  • Overtime as required to support campaigns and special events.
  • Position is based out of our Vernon office.
