Description

The Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) is an independent, professional self-governing body established in 1920 by provincial statue (the Architects Act) with the mandate to regulate the profession of architecture on behalf of the public.

The AIBC has an opportunity for an ambitious professional who is up for a rewarding challenge. We are seeking a full-time Event and Outreach Specialist to join our hardworking and motivated team. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Communications, this position plays a strategic and creative role within the department and will appeal to those who have a passion for event management and an aptitude for working with a variety of stakeholders.

The Event and Outreach Specialist contributes to the day-to-day operations of the AIBC’s communications department with specific emphasis on outreach, project management and development of promotional strategies for events. This role coordinates all event logistics for AIBC's annual calendar of in-person events, and collaborates with the Communications department on various promotion and marketing initiatives. The Event and Outreach Specialist is also responsible for coordinating and training event staff and volunteers, and providing general departmental support. Along with the other staff in the Communications department, this role operates inter-departmentally to support Institute programs and services.

You thrive in organizations that constantly adapt and evolve. You are an idea generator, a skilled tactician and jump at the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues on projects. You are energetic and have perfected the ability to plan, initiate, coordinate, and execute projects to successful completion. You have the confidence and ability to motivate others and see projects through to completion, and are able to juggle multiple projects with competing deadlines. You have gained these capacities through the completion of formal training in event management and through three to five years of related work experience. Respect and appreciation for the profession of architecture is a must, and experience in a self-regulatory environment is an asset.

The AIBC strives for institutional excellence and our team works to foster a welcoming, progressive, innovative, and respectful working environment. You will be offered a comprehensive total rewards package, including membership in the Public Service Pension Plan. Working in our downtown heritage building, we are centrally located near a variety of excellent cultural, restaurant and commuter options.

How to Apply

If you are interested in joining our team, please send us your cover letter and resume (in one PDF document), clearly describing why you are a good fit for this position and how your knowledge and experience will contribute to our success. In a separate attachment, please include a writing sample in MS Word of no more than 500 words outlining a recent event that you were responsible for organizing. All documents can be sent to Yana Vassilenko, Human Resources Specialist, at hr@aibc.ca by November 13, 2017.
