Reporting to the General Manager, Corporate Services, and leading a small team of talented communications professionals, the Manager Strategic Communications & Community Engagement is responsible for the development and implementation of corporate communications strategy in alignment with the District’s priorities and goals.
The Manager provides strategic communications advice to the Executive and staff, and provides communication management expertise on major projects and emergent issues as required. The Manager, in coordination with the Communications team, provides functional guidance to departments across the District and supplies advice and support to enhance public engagement work. The Manager supports/leads a number of key organizational initiatives, including playing an instrumental role in the finalization and implementation of the District’s Digital Strategy.
As a member of the District’s senior leadership team, the Manager will bring together key internal and external resources to best meet the communication and engagement needs of the District, in alignment with industry best practices. The Manager is responsible for maintaining the District’s communications and graphic standards.
You are an experienced writer, strategist and communications planner who is forward thinking, collaborative and a well-connected professional leader. You have solid experience in the public sector with a strong balance of both strategic and tactical communications skills, complimented by the ability to work effectively across hierarchies and cultures, to build relationships and influence decision making.
You possess higher education in Communications, Journalism, or Strategic Public Relations and a minimum of 7-10 years of related experience including at least 3-5 years leading a team at a strategic level. Please note - this is not a Marketing or MarCom role.
