Description

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President, Government and Member Relations (VP) plays a vitally important role in promoting and elevating the organization’s policy leadership profile and the industry’s reputation, as well as supporting direct and indirect engagement with each level of government. The VP will proactively share the economic, environmental, innovation and
safety story and will ultimately seek to develop and contribute to influence
public policy that advances BC’s ongoing competitiveness and growth in the
maritime sector.

This newly-created role is responsible for the development, execution and monitoring of the BCMEA’s comprehensive government stakeholder
communications, inclusive of First Nations/Indigenous engagement, and members relations strategies that support and promote the organization’s goals, objectives and key deliverables. As a member of the executive leadership team, the VP participates in corporate policy development, strategic planning and decision-making activities.

As the primary conduit for the BCMEA’s interaction with government, First Nations/Indigenous communities, the media and customer members, the
ideal candidate brings a minimum 10 years of senior management experience in government relations and public affairs gained within a complex organization or industry; knowledge of the Marine industry will be considered an asset. A proactive and compelling professional with sound decision-making abilities, the VP will work collaboratively with senior executives and external partners to ensure key information is reaching the desired stakeholder groups at the right time.
