The Communications Specialist is an integral part of a small and dynamic team of Communications professionals. Working under the direction of the Manager, Strategic Communications & Community Relations, the Specialist is primarily responsible for media relations and social media content management, ensuring alignment of District messaging across all channels.

The Specialist serves as first point of contact for all media enquiries, coordinates responses and spokespeople as appropriate, assists staff when they are preparing for interviews, monitors media coverage, and prepares a weekly media report for senior staff and Council. This role also coordinates the District’s social media presence and performs spokesperson duties when necessary. During an emergency, the Specialist assists with crisis communications including strategic messaging, media relations, supporting assigned spokespersons and supervising field information officers. In addition, the Specialist supports the position responsible for website content creation and maintenance.

You are a Communications generalist with specific skills and capacities in communications strategy, communications planning, media relations, crisis communications, social media content strategy and management, and website content management.  You have knowledge of the principles, objectives, methods and standards of communications work relevant to the public sector and are able to think critically and strategically by seeing the broad implications of events.  As an adaptable and mature professional you are able to understand your client’s core business objectives and create compelling and engaging content strategies to help them achieve those objectives. You possess a diploma in a related discipline (journalism, communications), plus a minimum of seven years of experience in a professional communications capacity.  Public sector experience preferred.  Please note that this is not a Marketing position.

If you have what we’re looking for and have a passion to serve people and the community, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting a healthy and safe workplace, we would like to hear from you. Please apply on-line with your cover letter and resume at https://careers.dnv.org by October 11, 2022, to be considered for this competition.
