Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) is a dynamic, progressive organization that supports the government in its ongoing dialogue with British Columbians. GCPE leads and coordinates government communications and public engagement through three divisions: Communications and Media Relations Division, Strategic Communications Division and Corporate Services Division.

The Communications and Media Relations Division is responsible for communications management and strategic coordination of daily issues-based communications activities. The Division also delivers a range of communications services and products including strategic communications planning and advice, proactive public relations, ministerial communications support, writing services, media monitoring, media relations and issues management. In addition, the division leads provincial emergency communications and works closely with various internal and external communications teams on priority projects and issues.

The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Communications and Media Relations Division leads a team of approximately 165 professional communicators to advance government communications, issues management, media relations, emergency, and COVID-19 communications. The ADM works closely and advises the Premier’s office and Deputy Minister on public communications and significant issues of the day. The ADM also acts as strategic counsel and support to ministers, ministries, and the Premier’s Office relating to key government priorities with a focus on media relations, public relations, and issues management.

The incumbent is a seasoned leader who inspires high performance and problem solves complex issues by anticipating actions and decisions that will be required of government.

Success in this role involves experience leading a progressive communications function within a multi-layered, multi-partner, diverse and complex organization. In addition to the experience required, the ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree in a related discipline.
