Description

Purpose-built for the 21st century, the University of British Columbia's (UBC) Okanagan campus opened in Kelowna in 2005. More than 11,500 students from throughout the Okanagan region, across Canada and 109 other countries are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs in nine faculties and schools. Here, students interact with one another and their professors on a daily basis, while becoming global citizens through interaction with their community and the world. With $40 million in annual research funding, and more than 1,300 research projects underway, UBCO is earning a reputation as an important, respected centre of learning and research, enhancing knowledge creation and innovation in the region and internationally. UBC is one of North America’s largest public research and teaching institutions, and one of only two Canadian institutions consistently ranked among the world’s 40 best universities.

UBC Okanagan is in the heart of Syilx Okanagan Nation Territory within British Columbia’s stunning Okanagan Valley. UBC is deeply committed to Indigenous partnerships and when first established in 2005 UBC Okanagan embarked on a new relationship with Indigenous peoples of these lands by signing an MOU with the Chiefs solidifying this commitment, which has resulted in 35 percent of UBC’s overall all indigenous student population being served by the Okanagan campus.

An incredible opportunity exists within UBC Okanagan (UBCO) to provide innovative and thoughtful leadership for all the University’s external relations, communications and marketing initiatives. This newly established and pivotal leadership role will have a sharp focus on strategic communications and community engagement, along with being a trusted advisor to the Deputy Vice Chancellor & Principal. As a collaborative and collegial leader, you will work with talented team members in helping to shape an integrated marketing communications approach to advance UBCO’s place on the world stage. The position oversees the development of comprehensive strategic and operational plans that involve a diverse group of key partners inside and outside the campus and creates a new and innovative style of engagement with the University.

You are a gifted relationship builder, communicator and strategist who has demonstrated excellence in building deep, authentic interactions with a multitude of internal and external partners. You are effective at working across all aspects of an organization to ensure a strong service orientation for all faculties and departments and pull people together to focus on common objectives, creating alignment to the academic mission of UBCO. Furthermore, you bring many years of strategic marketing & communications expertise from a multi-layered, complex environment and have the ability to translate concepts in a collaborative manner.

If you are ready to bring an inclusive, consultative and proactive approach to a university setting we would like to hear from you. Please visit www.pfmsearch.com or contact Shelina Esmail or Jennifer Madden.
