Communications and Marketing Associate
Ocean Diagnostics (ODI) is an environmental impact company tackling microplastic pollution and biodiversity loss through cutting-edge technologies, state-of-the-art laboratory analysis services, and community science and education tools. Collaborating with government, industry, academia, non-profits and foundations in BC, Canada and internationally, ODI helps to generate the scientific data needed to inform decision making and solutions.
Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications, the Communications and Marketing Associate executes companywide and divisional marketing strategies to advance company goals. The Associate increases brand reputation and lead generation among local, national, and international audiences by identifying, planning, coordinating and executing marketing materials, communications and media. They will develop, publish and track stories and content for the company’s website, newsletter, social media channels; develop and coordinate public relations, media and campaigns regarding the launch of new technologies, services, products and partnerships to increase the company’s regional, national and international profile; write technical papers and translate scientific information for the public; and support conferences, events, promotions and campaigns as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Identify, interview for, write, edit and publish stories about ODI’s new technology, scientific reports, education program, company updates and collaborative partnerships
* Optimize content for, monitor and engage on social media
* Develop written and curate visual content for website, social media, newsletter, earned media and paid ads
* Work with engineers and scientists to write and publish technical notes, application notes and white papers
* Write and pitch media releases and increase ODI’s brand and thought leadership among regional, national and global environmental, academic and industry sectors
* Collect visual storytelling assets, including photography, video and design
* Connect news outlets and reports to ODI experts for media inquiries and interviews
* Keep a pulse on industry-related news, policy and events
* Create marketing and promotional materials for events and campaigns
* Track performance and provide reports and recommendations
REQUIREMENTS
* Certificate or degree in journalism, communications or a related field or equivalent
* 3-5 years’ experience marketing in ocean technology, science or related markets
* Experience with communications, marketing, original writing, editing, social media and public relations, and an excellent understanding and familiarity with brand building
* Demonstrated proficiency in digital marketing
* Highly effective prioritization, time management and organization skills
* Proven success in communications planning, writing and pitching media
* Work well autonomously and with a team
* Strong passion for ocean conservation, science and technology

WORK ENVIRONMENT
* Full time 40 hours per week
* $65,000 - $75,000 annually
* Extended health benefits and vacation
* Hybrid position working from home or the main office in Victoria
* Must be available for field interviews, photography and events as needed
* Some travel to Victoria and Vancouver offices required
