Bring your writing, editing, and publication-management skills to a role with a diverse range of internal and external communications. WorkSafeBC's Corporate Communications department is seeking two editors to join their creative team. You'll write, assign, edit, and package articles, visual materials, and documents for both web and print publication, and manage editorial projects from conception through final publication.
As an editor, you'll be responsible for providing strategic expertise in developing ideas and lineups, identifying the most appropriate channel and approach for each article, supervising contract writers, and ensuring consistency of voice, tone, style, content, and quality. If you are a collaborative-minded, detail-oriented individual with at least six years of experience working in an editorial, communications, or publishing environment, we'd like to hear from you!
As an editor you will:
- Manage the production of a variety of resources for internal and external audiences from development through publication
- Provide direction and quality control on projects for web or print publication, ensuring adherence to our editorial and publishing standards
- Work as part of a team, clearly and concisely presenting and explaining technical information, verbally and in writing, to audiences with varying levels of understanding and information needs
- Provide expertise to internal clients in developing story ideas and content, and write and edit stories for our intranet site
- Write, edit, and coordinate the production of brochures, booklets, posters, reports, manuals, and other projects
- Assist departments with their communications needs by providing advice on style, objectives, and publication standards and procedures
- Liaise with clients and artists, web publishers, photographers, typesetting, printing, or outside suppliers
We're looking for people who can:
- Independently plan and organize multiple projects in a team environment
- Mentor and coach subject-matter experts in preparing information for electronic and print publications with sensitive content
- Provide persuasive and diplomatic input, advice, and guidance to others on a design and production team
- Demonstrate experience with writing and all stages of editing: structural, stylistic, copy editing, and proofreading. Experience with plain-language editing is an asset
- Clearly and concisely present and explain technical information, verbally and in writing, to audiences with varying levels of understanding
- Use Microsoft Office products, including Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Your experience and educational background:
- A degree in English, journalism, communications, social sciences or science
- A minimum of six years of recent, related experience working in an editorial, communications, or publishing environment
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
