The Executive Director of Communications, Privacy and Community Engagement is responsible to the Superintendent of Schools, for managing Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools (NLPS) internal and external communications programs, NLPS’ community engagement functions, as well as managing all Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) matters within NLPS.

The Executive Director is responsible for the development and management of our communications team. This includes developing communication strategies and plans, implementing standards using best practices. This role will act as an ambassador of NLPS and work collaboratively with various stakeholders and leadership teams to generate superior awareness and build trust. In collaboration with the senior leadership team, school principals, vice principals, and managers, this role ensures that communication strategies and initiatives reinforce and maintain NLPS' vision, mission, values and goals. This position establishes and oversees the development of communications and marketing initiatives to position NLPS as a first-choice place to work, teach, and learn.

The Executive Director may be expected to travel on an occasional basis and occasionally work weekends and evenings as required.

Salary Range: $121,900 - $134,444 per annum, with an excellent benefits and pension package.

Your Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in communications or a related field (journalism, public administration, etc.)
• Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in progressively more responsible communications positions. Experience in a large or public sector organization preferred.
• An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Other Requirements, Skills, Abilities, Competencies

• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications skills.
• Advanced skills in desktop publishing, presentation software, audio/visual recording tools, website creation software, spreadsheet and graphic design software (e.g., Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Demonstrated superior organizational, management, leadership, communication, and human relation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, work independently, perform duties with speed and accuracy, work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with highly confidential and sensitive issues with a high degree of diplomacy and confidentiality. Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Upholds a high level of professionalism that ensures the district’s reputation in the delivery of duties both in public and internal forums.
• Proven ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of the organization and key internal and external stakeholders without requests or direction being provided.
• Ability to work responsibly with a great deal of autonomy and latitude.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collegially in a team setting, and to be adaptable and flexible with changing and/or competing priorities.
• Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
