Destination Canada is looking for a Global Media and Public Relations Strategist, to join our team in Vancouver as we inspire travellers to explore Canada.

Working in Destination Canada’s (DC) Global Brand Strategy team, the Global Media and Public Relations Strategist enables DC to reach and engage target travellers through storytelling, media relations and public relations programs. The individual provides strategic support, earned media global planning guidance, relationship management, story/pitch oversight, MRPR project management and measurement support to Destination Canada’s International and Business Events teams to help meet global communications objectives.

Under the guidance of the Senior Director, Brand Communications, and working with external vendors, international and business event teams and tourism industry partners, the incumbent also manages the planning and delivery of events and programs that generate earned media coverage for Canada, including Destination Canada’s signature media event GoMedia Canada, and media programs for DC signature events such as Rendez-Vous Canada, Incentive Canada and Innovate Canada.

Destination Canada strives to be an agile organization that is responsive to a fast-paced industry, and this position will require the skills and personal attributes to support this objective.

Note: The successful candidate will be working under Destination Canada’s Hybrid Working Model. This model requires all employees to work 2-3 days/week in the office in Vancouver. The remainder of the work week can be spent working from a home office.

This role requires bilingual proficiency. Candidates must demonstrate fluency in English and possess the ability to read, write, and speak in French at the AAB level (Reading/Writing/Speaking or Oral Proficiency).

EDUCATION: Degree from a recognized university in PR/marketing communications or an acceptable combination of training and experience.

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in MRPR management
• 5+ years of experience managing and collaborating with external agencies and vendors in delivering high-profile MR/PR programs and events
• 5+ years of experience in preparing and delivering communications advice to internal and external audiences through presentations and webinars
• 5+ years of experience developing and implementing comprehensive communications plans and writing and editing communications products.
• 3+ years of experience in working with and advising senior management and spokespeople in the context of planning and facilitating media interviews
• Extensive experience in project management within a multi-stakeholder environment
• Experience in supporting issues communications, including communications triage and internal stakeholder liaison
• Experience in customer relationship management databases, an asset
• Experience with the business events and tourism industry, an asset
• Experience in an international media environment, an asset
