Western Forest Products (Western or WFP) is a publicly-traded, diversified wood products company that sustainably manages forests and manufactures high-quality wood products on the coast of British Columbia. Western has revenues of $1.2 billion and employs approximately 2,000 full-time employees throughout its business units. It operates seven flexible manufacturing facilities on the coast and as the largest Crown timber tenure holder in coastal BC, Western has a superior timber asset base and secure fibre supply. Its high-value, diverse products serve global markets. As a margin-focused company, Western derives the majority of its sales from speciality wood products and is investing $125 million in strategic capital in its manufacturing platform.

With the overall objective of protecting and promoting Western’s Defining a Higher Standard brand, the Senior Director, Communications is responsible for the development, promotion, and protection of the reputation, brand, and profile of Western Forest Products with key audiences - internally and externally - through the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy. Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources and working closely with the Executive Team, the Senior Director, Communications will play an integral leadership role, fostering strong partnerships with Executives and key internal and external stakeholders to ensure proactive, consistent, and impactful communications that build and protect the Western brand.

The ideal candidate is a senior communications professional who brings 10+ years’ experience leading the communications strategy in a complex, private sector entity that deals with sophisticated stakeholder groups. Experience that includes publicly traded or regulated companies is preferred, as is the resource sector. Alternatively, experience could include strategic communication consulting in a pedigreed agency. Experience providing strategic counsel to executives is required. As a broad communications generalist, with expertise dealing with internal and external communications, and media relations, and ideally investor relations, the ideal candidate has the strategic agility and business acumen to develop an integrated communications plan that will cascade throughout the business.
