Responsibilities

TransLink is looking for a hard-working, creative and enthusiastic manager to lead its corporate and employee communications team.

This person will play an integral role in developing external and internal strategies and plans to communicate with our customers, employees and the general public. Along with being a strong writer, prior experience managing other communications professionals is an important asset.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Oversees the development of communications strategies, plans and activities ensuring alignment to TransLink's over-arching communications strategy. Manages development and delivery of internal and external communications for TransLink.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leads communications analysis for major TransLink projects, initiatives and issues, and develops communications strategies and plans to communicate with the public, customers, employees, stakeholders and the media.

Leads the implementation of communications strategies and plan, including managing contracted public relations / communications resources, and ensuring plans and deliverables integrate as needed elements of media relations, employee communications, customer communications, corporate communications, social media, government relations and community engagement.

Researches and produces policy analysis and recommendations, upon which TransLink decisions may be based. Support division in understanding and preparing appropriate communication plans to implement initiatives. Helps change the perception of public transit by encouraging ridership, stakeholder engagement and TransLink’s brand awareness through inventive and creative media and community relations strategies and special events, and corporate communications programs.

Collaborates and leads communications resources in the operating companies and TransLink-related projects to ensure consistent and timely implementation and communications strategies and plans. Leads/ participates in initiatives that support other subsidiaries.

Develops and maintains the effective flow of information to key TransLink audiences such as stakeholders, customers, all levels of government, media, employees and others. Oversees corporate communications calendar and provides advice and direction with respect to timing and approach for communications activities.

Manages the monitoring of public and stakeholder reaction to TransLink management of projects, initiatives and issues critical to maintaining confidence in TransLink as a public organization.

Acts as TransLink’s primary contact of media and issues, employee communications, corporate communications, capital project communications, or customer communications as and when needed. Acts as lead TransLink spokesperson with a demonstrated track record as a spokesperson when required.

Manages and leads staff, including recruitment, selection, training, coaching, development, performance management and all other people management practices.

Qualifications

Other Requirements:

Solid knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques of strategic communications planning, internal communications, media relations, issues management, stakeholder relations and community engagement.

Strong written and oral communications including the ability to write and present communications plans, strategies and content for social media, digital, general media, employees and the general public.

Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills with the ability to recognize and manage key internal and external relationships with stakeholders, customers, employees, the media, and the general public.

Advanced planning and organizational skills to develop and lead communications strategies, plans, and programs.

Strong problem solving, mediation and decision making skills to carry out a key role in issues management, and to act decisively and independently in high pressure , time sensitive situations.

Solid analytical skills to provide communication analysis and recommendations for major initiatives.

Advanced leadership skills to lead communication initiatives, including those involving enterprise-wide implementation.

Recruitment Process:  An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process.  A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.
