POSITION OVERVIEW:
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Marketing Communications Specialist to join the Communications Section within the Office of the Chief Constable. This position supports marketing communication activities for the police service, while ensuring the work is aligned with the overall needs and priorities of SPS.
Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, our successful candidate will provide strategic communications and marketing support to SPS for both digital and traditional communication streams. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills that will support the development and delivery of messaging and campaigns for internal and external audiences. Their work will include: developing and implementing multi-channel strategic marketing and communications plans for various SPS sections and projects; developing social media and web content; developing collateral materials; researching and coordinating advertising; working with external vendors for web development, graphic design, and printing; and writing speaking notes, newsletters, and other material as required.
This position will require a self-directed and experienced communications professional with a high level of organization and an ability to think critically. Our incumbent will have considerable knowledge of communications principles, practices, methods, and techniques for a variety of communication channels, including web and social media. They will be customer-focused and will thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and other key stakeholders. Keeping current with emerging marketing and communications practices is required. This level of work will require our candidate to maintain focus under pressure and manage changing priorities.
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field plus, 5-7 years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The incumbent is required to have strong computer skills with a high proficiency in MS Office programs and the Adobe suite of programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro). Experience with SharePoint, Google Analytics, Drupal/CMS platforms are significant assets.
This position is unionized represented by CUPE Local 402 and works a 35-hour/week. The salary range for this position is $46.04-$52.18 based on 2024 rates.
