VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation is Vancouver Coastal Health's primary philanthropic partner, raising funds for specialized adult health services and research for all British Columbians. We partner with donors to drive innovation and sustainable health care at VGH & UBC Hospital, GF Strong Rehab Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and Vancouver Community Health Services. What’s the opportunity?

This is a 12 month contract reporting to the President & CEO. The Internal Communications Specialist supports and collaborates with the Leadership Team with a view to creating an internal communications plan with three primary outcomes:

  1. Develop and execute an internal communications framework to support the successful implementation of the Strategic Change Initiatives (SCIs); ensuring that their progress and impact are well understood by Foundation employees
  2. Conduct internal communication needs assessment and develop a plan regarding internal communications more broadly, which include development of standards for internal communications, as well as assessment and recommendations regarding internal communication platform(s) (Workplace/Slack/email), and may include use of visual communications devices within our workplace

The aim of the Internal Communications Specialist role is to enable staff to feel informed and connected with the Strategic Change Initiatives so we can successfully provide vital support to our donors and community.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops a strategic change initiatives communication framework and adoption strategies and ensures organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees.
  • Coaches and supports the Leadership Team to create timely and effective communications concerning decisions, plans and timelines of SCIs.
  • Establishes an internal change management communications strategy approved by President & CEO and leads the employee communication initiatives from concept through to execution.
  • Streamlines the communications channels and plans, edits and writes content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as scripts for staff town halls, Workplace posts, emails, etc.
  • Ensures internal communications standards are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization.
  • Ensures internal communication standards are consistent with external communication standards.
  • Responds to feedback from staff and adjusts communications content accordingly.
  • Coaches and provides hands on support to the Leadership Team and managers in their roles as communicators.
  • Acts as the subject matter expert for the Foundation’s internal communication, and as a resource to other teams. Brings expert knowledge in change management and of concepts, theory and principles in the field of internal communications

What do you bring?

  • Demonstrated professional experience in change management communications
  • Combination of skills and experience in journalism, communications and/or public relations or a Post-secondary degree and/or diploma in a related field preferred
  • Experience managing change communications
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a flair for storytelling in print, online and through social media channels; experience with non-profits
  • Superior editing and proof-reading skills; organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent judgment, interpersonal skills, resourcefulness and creativity
  • Quick learner with ability to manage multiple, often-competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with tight timelines
  • Ability to think strategically and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders
  • Self-starter with the ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision

 

What do we offer?

 

This is a full time permanent position. The successful person can expect a competitive yearly base salary between $76,483 and $86,912, depending on skill and experience.
