Communications Officer

We are seeking an experienced and passionate communications officer to join our team for a one-year, full-time position.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Effective communications and engagement are defining features of the Professional Employees Association (PEA). You are a communications generalist comfortable with both strategic communications and tactical execution as the sole communications professional for a provincial union. You love to see a project from conception to completion and can manage contractors to complete various projects. You’re able to put together a video or graphics for social media and you love increasing your reach on these platforms. You can write email copy that drives open rates and you thrive on A/B testing subject lines. You have capacity to coach staff and stakeholders in communication best practices and you believe member engagement is integral to the success of a membership-driven organization.

You are a positive and enthusiastic team player, who can work independently with minimal direction. You have excellent writing skills and experience writing for a variety of audiences using a broad range of communications vehicles. You have experience in advertising, brand management, social media, graphic design, content management, public awareness campaigns, photography and media relations.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Along with your university degree in communications, journalism, or marketing you have related experience in labour, non-profit or social justice communications.

You are skilled in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Drupal and the Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of NationBuilder is desired.

ABOUT THE PEA

The PEA is an independent union of professionals. We have a small dedicated

team of creative staff who ensure we remain the representative of choice for BC’s

professionals. This position reports to the Executive Director and works out of our Victoria office with travel several times a year within British Columbia. We support our staff with professional development and career growth opportunities and offer a competitive salary and compensation package.
