As we wrap up another IABC/BC board year, we wanted to share some of our key activities and reflect on what we’ve accomplished together as a chapter. Our profession continues to evolve at an extraordinary pace. From emerging technologies and shifting workplace dynamics to economic uncertainty and changing audience expectations, communicators are navigating an increasingly complex landscape. Amidst all of that, our goals have remained consistent: to cultivate a thriving, inclusive communications community by engaging members, delivering meaningful professional experiences, fostering valuable partnerships, and creating opportunities for leadership, connection, and growth.
Building our Community
Over the past year, we brought together communicators from across British Columbia through networking events, special interest groups, professional development sessions, and social gatherings. Participants engaged in diverse conversations and fostered collaboration. Whether members were attending for the first time or reconnecting with long-time colleagues, every event was an opportunity to strengthen relationships and expand professional networks. We continue to expand our reach, and as of the writing of this blog, our chapter membership exceeds 200 professionals.
Additionally, through mentorship, student engagement, and opportunities for new communicators to connect with experienced practitioners, we continue to invest in the future of our profession. Witnessing students and early-career communicators gain confidence and build meaningful relationships is a powerful reminder of the importance of the work we do.
Learning Together
We also highlighted the importance of continuous learning. Throughout the year, our chapter explored topics ranging from leadership and strategic communications to emerging trends shaping our industries. We were fortunate to learn from accomplished speakers and experts who generously shared their expertise and practical insights. We also hosted the first IABC/BC Leadership Conference to further develop the future leaders of our chapter.
The Power of Volunteers
None of this year’s accomplishments would have been possible without our incredible volunteers and Board of Directors. They remain the beating heart of our organization.
Our board members and volunteers dedicate countless hours outside of their professional and personal commitments to serve this chapter. Their passion, creativity, and commitment to our community are evident in every event, initiative, and program delivered throughout the year.
Serving our chapter is a rewarding yet challenging task, and I am continually inspired by the generosity and professionalism of this team. Thank you for your leadership, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to our community.
Looking Ahead
As one board year comes to a close, another begins.
While our profession continues to shift, one thing remains certain: the value of community has never been greater. Having a network of peers to learn from, collaborate with, and support one another is invaluable.
We look forward to building on this year’s momentum, welcoming new voices into our community, and continuing to create opportunities for communicators across British Columbia to connect, grow, and lead.
To our members, volunteers, partners, and everyone who contributed to this remarkable year, thank you very much.Your engagement, ideas, and generosity continue to strengthen this chapter.
