IABC/BC’s December 7, 2021 Holiday Social at Steamworks Brewpub

Co-hosted by CPRS and IABC/BC, our December 7 holiday social event was a resounding success! After nearly 2 years of COVID-19 restrictions, everyone was starved for a physical gathering to connect with new and familiar friends. We had a great turnout! The private room we booked at Steamworks Brewpub was full, with standing room only. Adhering to public health orders, all showed proof of double vaccination upon entry and wore mandatory face coverings unless they were eating or drinking. Everyone was in good spirits, smiling, laughing, even embracing, and shaking hands.

Not only did we savour the tantalizing canapés, desserts and beverages, but we also cherished the camaraderie of fellow communicators in a celebratory holiday atmosphere. Like many others, I was thrilled to finally meet the people with whom I’d been messaging and video-chatting for months. Several people shared with me why they joined the IABC/BC: to grow their network, to jumpstart or advance their careers, to give back and support the community. One praised how co-hosting events with CPRS fosters cross-collaboration and breaks down silos. Overall, members felt welcome, noting the genuine helpfulness of the IABC/BC community, grateful for the contacts made and experience gained through volunteering, and the transformation of connections into friendships.

Stay tuned for our second holiday social coming up on December 16! Another joint effort of CPRS and IABC/BC, it is a virtual event featuring fun games, S’mores, Hygge, discussions, and more.

Are you eagerly awaiting the next time we get together? Our first Professional Development event for 2022 is slated for February. The topic is either Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Communicator’s Role or The Future of Digital Communications. Details to come!
