IABC BC kicked off the 2014/15 season with a new president, new social media contest, new venue, and a lot of energy and enthusiasm. Attended by more than 60 current, transitional and potential members and sponsors, the consensus of attendees was “great venue, good food and great buzz.”

Held at Mahoney & Son’s newest location on the south side of False Creek at Stamp’s landing, overlooking the water, the first chapter event of the season gave members a chance to catch up with other members and meet new people, as well as catch up on the year ahead.

Chapter president Catherine Ducharme welcomed attendees, shared updates and goals for the upcoming year and introduced sponsors. Ryan Paulson, Vice President of Membership Services drew names and handed out the door prizes to seven lucky winners.

To encourage networking and the use of social media among attendees, a inaugural Twitter contest was held. Attendees were encouraged to take a photo of themselves with someone else and tweet using the event hashtag #IABCFallKickOff and tagging the other person.

Up for grabs for the most tweets was a gift certificate to Mahoney & Sons. Congratulations to Glauce Fleury who tweeted the most using the event hashtag and tagged someone at the event.

Alicia Giraud, a change management coordinator with UBC Faculty of Medicine and an IABC member for two years, said she enjoyed the event and had posted a tweet. “It’s a lot of fun. The venue and food are great. I really liked the Twitter contest,” she shared. “I also appreciate that a senior members came up to introduce themselves and start conversation. It’s a nice energy.”

Thanks to everyone who attended the Fall Kick Off event and those who participated in the Twitter contest. We look forward to seeing many more members at future events.
